Preservation
Preservation of originality is key for antique furniture in order to minimize changes to the state it was in when it was first created. It's also how its monetary value today is maximized. This is done by keeping the original finish, wood, and structural elements intact. It also means avoiding replacement of parts unless absolutely necessary. Any changes we make need to align with the era of the furniture’s creation.
Aesthetics
In terms of aesthetics, we want to showcase its historical beauty without stripping away the patina that is key for showing its age. We will clean the piece to remove grime and dust to more clearly show the original color and finish.
We can optionally repair scratches, dents, and minor damage in a way that blends seamlessly with the original material. Minor scratches can be buffed out or treated with color-matched wax or polish. You may or may not want to do this as scratches and dents are part of its history as well. As it's your furniture, it all depends on what you want for your piece. We can optionally polish and wax to provide a subtle shine without significantly changing the patina.

Functional Repair
We ensure the furniture remains functional without compromising its historical value. This means stabilizing loose joints or using wood glue to restore the boards or veneers to their original look and shape. We can optionally replace damaged hardware like hinges, handles, or locks with authentic reproductions. You may also be able to source these originals on another piece from the manufacturers line, similar to "parts cars" in the automotive industry. If you are able to find that missing handle on another used piece, this is preferable to using a reproduction handle.

Longevity And Protection
Another goal is to protect the furniture from further deterioration. Techniques include applying protective coatings or waxes to shield the wood from moisture. This can also be done in a historically accurate way. For example, older pieces often used shellac, linseed oil or tung oil. We can identify the type of finish used and use the same thing for areas where its required.
